Man, I'm still feeling a bit tired from the weekend, but it was well worth it.
The Westword Showcase went down on Saturday at DC10 and it was a blast. Here's my little writeup on the day. I had a blast hosting the event and seeing everyone plus finally meeting people face-to-face that I've only chatted with and exchanged emails with. I just feel so good about our hip-hop scene that I feel like something big is going to happen. Maybe on a Chicago/Houston hip-hop scene-type come up. I just hope everyone keeps hustling and keeps supporting each other.
Speaking of big things, congrats to The Pirate Signal for getting booked to headline the hip-hop stage on the Warped Tour! How fresh is that? The Warped Tour flies into Denver on Sunday, June 29 at Invesco Field.
Here's some tunes:
"Things You Do For Love" - Ichiban feat. Inkline (from his mixtape Psycle Killer)
"Make the Block Crack" - Duce Wyld (from Joe Thunder's "I Got What U Need" compilation)
"The Avenue" - The Umconcious (yes, it's about Colfax!!!)

ONLY BECAUSE I HAVE SEEN ICHI AND INKLINE PERFORM IT...AND I GOT THE CD AND THE IN....
"Things you Do for Love"
Hands down one of my favorite InkLine beats in a long time..this should've been for our album...but that sucka went and had him and Ichi murder this shit.
What can you do when your crew is that dope???
I also wanna take this time as well to thank Isolated Generation, Subconcious, The Heights (the new group formed with Big House, Greg and others from Future Jazz Project) and the Dead Poets Society for straight killing it at our Sunday monthly-"Everybody Eats" at Herbs Hideout last night.
I had an exhausting-yet completely worth it-weekend that continued thru last night. Watching these cats perform was more proof positive that CO Hip Hop is stepping its game up. These cats all gave some good sets for a nice crowd.
Tonight-Isolated Generation will be taking ManeLines spot at Quixotes opening for Galapagos 4 artist-Qwel, Dirty Digital and Robust. Be sure to check out their live show. Shit is gonna be off the chain gang of 1974.
Keep your eyes peeled for the "everybody Eats" series which is the 3rd Sunday of every month at Herbs.
AS well...

OH yeah......
also want to thank DJ Revs for bringing Definition Rare to "Everybody Eats" last night at Herbs.
These dudes from Albuquerque straight up murdered it. I don't even know what else to say about them. Look them up on myspace....dudes can spit for real.
The next "Everybody Eats" will feature:
DJ Funktion (LIFECrew)
The Diamond Boiz
and from Ft. Chronic
Diverge & Ethix
on July 20th.
The Next BoomBox is on July 5th.
Ichiban song was sweet dog has a lil spit..
Duce Wyld...Make the block crack is hard I like that hood shit!! Keep it gutta!! "I was 13 wit a sack 18 wit a strap 27 years old still tryn to put the box on the map" hood shit I can relate to!
None of the songs were that tight if you ask me. if I had to pick a best i would say the Umconcious track. But yeah, nothin special.
There's been more time's than not when I've rode Colfax from Sheridan as far East as it goes just to get home. With that said I loved "The Avenue". Umconcious is a perfect example of the diversity of Colorado Hip Hop. I'm a fan.
"Make The Block Crack"- I was indecisive during the first couple of bars then... "I’ll be running all night specials until the law fucks with me". That pulled me in. Dope shit!
"Things You Do For Love"- I've always considered Inkline one of the top producers on the scene and I'm glad he's not making me look the fool. You aren't Colorado Hip Hop if you don't feel this track.
I don't understand... does GOD himself need to scream on tracks before some y'all give any props.
Great post!
Real Talk make the Block crack go hard if some dont understand its because they aint never been thru no real shit
things you do for love !from the title i didnt think id like it but i was suprised
Duce Wyld make the block crack I really felt that cuz I been there !! (The homeboy fell in love wit a stripper I fell in love wit a feen) he wasnt talkin about a feen he was talkin about the game and what the feen meant for him RAW!GANGSTA!
Hood shit is dope, and gangsta rap is dope as fuck too. But the problem (mainly for CO artists) is the lyricism. Granted that lyricism is subjectable, but I think the "Hood" or "gangsta" emcees are keepin it too simple. Show some wordplay and clever styles, WHILE keepin your good vibes and song topics. And dont freak out people cuz you know what Im talkin about. Too many Dr. Dre's and not enough Kool G Rap's.
I wanna be like "Holy shit did you hear how he flipped that style and used those words??!!"
Instead Im gettin "Rollin down the street... packin my heat... playin a tight beat..." Thats an exaggeration of course, but that proves my point.
I hope at least one person can feel what Im sayin and co sign. I really do think it needs to be stepped from you guys.
Vein a dope emcee in my book is still about outspittin the next guy lyrically, while sendin a pwerful message.
i agree cept for the vein part...never heard um, but a good qwestion is who is the most lyrical in co?
Lol sorry it was just a typo. It was suppose to say Bein. No one named Vein lol.
Im not talkin about CO in general. Im talkin the ones who say Hood music this and hood music that every 5 minutes. Those are the ones who I think need to display more lyricism.
I definitely agree.
The Umconsious is hot....
could use a little better flow but all around pretty dope...
Im sure they will be a force in a year...Radio play status...
Much Respect
