DJ Quik speaks on Denver, Bedz slammin' new mixtape...

So I recently interviewed DJ Quik and AMG about their new group the Fixxers for HipHopCrack.com and I had a chance ask Quik about his recent show in Denver.

For those unaware, back in like 1991, Quik did a show in Denver to promote the Born and Raised in Compton album. Unaware to Quik, who was down with Tree Top Piru Bloods, Denver was full of Rollin' 30 Crips. A bunch of those Crips went to the Quik show and started throwing up signs and throwing stuff on stage at Quik and his crew. Agitated, Quik picked up a 40 oz. bottle and smashed it in some dude's face. Quik spent that night in jail... he even said that cops were asking for his autograph to give to their kids. The incident was then infamously told in the single "Just Lyke Compton", where he disses the Mile High City. Dang, I love that song. Anyway, I spoke to Quik about his first time back to Denver after more than a decade.. (also check out Quik's Top 5 West Coast Producers at Street Census)

Around town, DJ Bedz just dropped a real hot mixtape with DJ Whoo Kid called Mile High Shadyville featuring a handful of local acts. Although I felt like cats like Distrakt, Life Crew collective or some Eastside folks like Dez or Dankside would have been a dope addition, the mix is still a real solid effort. He's also offering the mixtape for free download. Get it here. Oh, and one more thing, the "Red Hot Remixes" were done by local producer Red Hot Beats. He's currently producing stuff for Melissa Lujan, Berg (on Melo's Krossover label) and other cats. Keep an eye out!

Q.Burse goes off on local cats, new music from Tha Fly, D.O., Dow

Q.Burse

Sometime last year I went to what was the first of many hip-hop nights at The Shelter on Broadway. I got to hear cats like Spoke in Words, P.A.A.S. and others spit. But one performance that stuck out was from Q.Burse because of a track called "Burnin' Bridges" where he calls out local folks like Break Mechanics, P.A.A.S., DJ Chonz, Franswa, DJ Qoute and others. In a post I made a couple of days later right here, I asked, what the deal? Q.Burse finally got at me, gave me the track and the lowdown on the stories behind it. Peep:

Whats Good Q…. Here’s the track -“Burnin’ Bridges” from my latest release “Eleven 3irty A.M”, which is available online through my websites. The story behind this “Dis Record” is everyone that has crossed my path and BURNED BRIDGES WITH ME, so I felt like going to work and assassinatin’ these characters for example in the first verse when I exposed the Break Mechanics the reason being was I am a solo artist and at the time was asked to take part as the only Emcee, along with the 2 other “Rappers” If you don’t know we performed at the then Blue Mule on 19th and Market every Sunday nights to a packed crowd, starting Summer of 05 through the Winter 05, understand I did this while I was working on my solo album and taking my solo career out of town- I was never a permanent member of that group. Everything seemed to be cool, I guess lookin back on it there were a lot of times that the band was in cohesive and unorganized. I also agreed to be on their album write if not all most of the hooks to the very songs that we performed on Sunday nights. I had one cool experience with the band, when we opened for Slick Rick at Cervantes, but other than that shit was real shady.

You had PAAS tryin to side hustle contracts and pocket money behind everyone’s back, the band was always late to practice let alone the venues that we performed at. It started getting to the point where any drummer/rapper/freestlyer/horn player/spoken word wannabees makin the band hopefuls would just sit in on our sets. Don’t get me wrong I’m not the band but the fact that it was our night and band members are getting drunk, buying drinks for these hoes charging it to the band interfering with my bread that shit had to stop, for me at least. The shit hit the fan when on a particular Sunday night we were on our first set break and I was presented with one of the first vinyl pressings of my single “What you know About” feat. that punk ass muthaphucka KRS-1(who at a later date sat in on a set too) this old fat cornball ass lame Down Lo wanna try Q.Burse. When I say try, I mean you wanna start
battalin me on stage and be slick about it because you didn’t sat it directly to me but the band and the audience was like what’s up with that. At that point it was whatever with me I ripped him up like shreds of paper and offered to take it outside but instead fatty pants wanna try to have a conversation instead of getting put on dem back pockets!!! The time came they wanted to let him go, he sucked anyway, I didn’t care to take part after that and they bring his wack ass right back and then the band fell off.

With that taken care of the song goes to the next victim that bitch ass fraudulent faggot of a so called DJ/Beat maker (he don’t make beats he takes em’) QUOTE….I gave him that name when we were in high school and the only gig he had was doing my graduation party. See I’ve tried to work with him 5 times in the last 7 years every single time has been him bitching out either in the middle of production or close to the end of a project/mix tape. And you know what; he still has copies of everything we’ve done. It got to the point where I was ready to take a bat upside his head at a barbershop and showed up to his front door numerous times. All this and he was the one to reach out and collaborate with me, I didn’t give 2 shits if I ever worked with Quentin.

Now to “K-Tone got smart remarks till I spit in his face” but I aint seen him since because he know better-he wants to call my manager a secretary when he got his hair done like a lil bitch and can’t man up and speak face to face wanna send people to talk for him.

Next is DJ Chief Rocka…. See he produced 2 tracks on my first nation wide release “Crack’D Marbles” and a track on “Community Service” which was an O2P project, and this lazy ass chump wanna act like he’s so busy with that 3Deep shit but wont get off his lazy ass to do shows or mix tapes with me and get this….he’s my cousin!!??!!

The song goes next to your homeboy DJ Chonz…. I did Crunktoberfest a couple of years ago and that single with KRS that I mentioned earlier had him on his knees ready to suck with his hand out for a copy of the track so he can run his ass back to the truck in the parking lot for that 5 at 5 shit he had on KS-107.5 and play the hell out of my single….then he wanna turn around at the Jay-Z Fade to Black Party at Forest Room 5 and try to hate because of a slut he was feelin’ was tryin to hang tough with me….

The Cracka from FanBass now that’s Aaron Perry, he and his lame ass company owe me money from the album I did that was never released and royalties from the punk ass KRS single not to mention the singles I have with Dilated People and Rudy Love of Sly and the Family Stone, the single I have with Encore of the Hieroglyphics and a track with Killah Priest because of legal issues I cant really go any further into that but I can tell you about those Roadside Profit bitch ass tramps, yeah you know there names RaMu, Brown and Musa over there frontin like no one can do it better. See they asked me to come down and discuss working on a project produced by them and a faulty ass youth program. One day I go down
there and there playing beats for Don Blas and I already recorded those tracks for my EP, all because 50k was thrown in the air by Don, you think he had the loot to pay for them beats, nope everyone got shammed except me, I dipped on there motorcycle gang too….

...and that gay, punk ass dude Mr.Baptiste, yeah Fransua, I hear he got a 6 disc cd changer in his ride and 5 slots were filled with my shit….but ever since 1999 at the Ghostface & Cappadonna show and Jungle Brothers up at the Fox and the Aggie in Boulder , he saw the crowd react to me on stage by buying my EP “GYP The Spectacular Q.Burse” directly from me, acting like he was the only one that was going to make any money, bitch please I’m Mile Hi Citys REALEST….

Last but not least Jamie Jones aka Prophecy and that 3citysm bullshit…. He should’ve just paid me my bread off the 2002 release “Crack’D Marbles” but wanna offer me some punk ass distribution deals, lame ass DVD exposure 4 years after the album was miss marketed by his fake ass record label….
SO THAT’S HOW I GOT OFF MY CHEST ALL THE SHIT THAT IVE GONE THROUGH IN RELATION TO ME BEING AN INDEPENDENT ARTIST EVERYONES STORY DIFFERS BUT THIS WAS MINE. SO HELL YEAH IM GONNA PERFORM THAT SHIT BECAUSE ALL I SPIT IS THE TRUTH LIKE ITS BEEN SAID BEFORE….

Q.Burse The Timeless CHILD Iz Mile Hi Citys REALEST!

So there it is. That's Q.Burse's side of the story and I'll leave it at that. I'm sure most of you will have some responses, so I ask you to leave them in the comments. This will be the only post I make about the song and stories behind it. If you want your side to be heard, leave it in the comments. Everybody reads those too.

On another note, Tha Fly (Babah Fly & Url Gray-V) have united with D.O. the Fabulous Drifta and Dow Jones for a real dope project called The Mile High Mixtape, featuring all four emcees spitting like crazy over some banging beats. And they've been so kind to offer the mixtape download for free. Go get it now at the Five Points Plan website. Peep this sample:

Also, check out P.A.A.S. and Apostle this Friday, April 13 doing a set at Twist & Shout on 2509 E. Colfax at 3pm. It's like Colfax & York, across the street from East High School, you know, where the Tattered Cover moved to. I'll be there!

Maneline, Beat Society,videos, events...!

I know this is late, but congrats to Maneline for the fresh cover story in Westword a couple of weeks ago and the release party was hot. It was packed too... but I'm kind of suspicious if all the people there were really there for Maneline, or just following a hot chick to buy here some drinks. Spoke with Mane after the party and asked him what was next? He's done all the shows here, he's got the most coverage he could have out of Denver (of the local publications that will cover hip-hop)... and Westword probably won't do a story on them again for several years (and they will never get another cover story in the paper)... so what's next? They're trying to tour

"Trying to line up one for the fall when school starts again probably in like early October," Mane told me. "I can get Albuquerque, Phoenix, and LA...probably Portland and Seattle. We will see, gotta start working that soon. Right now I am sending the album out this next week for reviews including OKay player and other such publications. Right now helping the Pirate Signal and Deca trying to get them a couple more dates. We will see. Also setting up Deca's release party for May 4th at the Marquee."

Also want to give a shout out to Guerilla Garden for being named "Best Grafitti Advocates" by Westword.

Westword also gave props to a group named "3oh!3" is this group for real or are they just mocking hip-hop? Drop your thoughts in the comments...

A couple of folks were mad at my last post, that's good, we need more dialogue and if I'm missing something let me know. I'm just trying to help the dope hip-hop here get heard... for real. By the way Distrakt hit me up and showed me his new promo video... check it out:

And just for the hell of it, here's B-Blacc's video he did last year:

Also make sure to check out The Beat Society on 4/18... Cities like Philly, Chicago and Atlanta host similar events, so why can't we? I think the price is wrong on the flyer so email makindents@tmail.com to make sure
If you're a Black Pegasus fan, check out his MySpace page because dude is doing so many shows I can hardly keep up with it...
